Home Cooking Tools

Cooking at home more often starts with having the right tools around.
Not the flashy kind that end up in the back of a drawer — the ones that actually cut down on prep time, reduce effort, and make weeknight meals feel less like a project.

Air Fryer: Faster, Crispier, Less Mess

An air fryer uses circulating hot air to get crispy results with very little oil — up to 80% less oil compared to traditional frying. It cooks faster than a conventional oven and handles a wide range of things well: chicken wings, roasted vegetables, sweet potato wedges, reheated leftovers. Broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts come out with a genuinely satisfying crunch that the oven rarely delivers in the same amount of time. It's also much faster for reheating food than heating up a full oven, and the results are far better than a microwave.
Models with multiple cooking functions — roast, bake, broil, dehydrate — are worth considering if counter space allows, since they replace several appliances at once.

Multi-Use Pressure Cooker: The Passive Cooking Champion

A multi-use pressure cooker like the Instant appliance functions as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, and sauté pan in one appliance. Pressure cooking cuts down cook times significantly — a tough cut of meat that takes three hours in a regular cooking vessel can be done in under an hour. The slow cooker function is the other end of that spectrum: dump in ingredients in the morning, leave it running on low all day, come back to a fully cooked meal. It's one of the most passive and reliable ways to batch cook, especially for grains, dried beans, or a roast.
There's a bit of a learning curve with pressure settings, but once it clicks, it's hard to go back.

Vegetable Chopper: The Prep Time Killer

Dicing onions, peppers, carrots, and other vegetables by hand takes up a disproportionate amount of meal prep time. A good vegetable chopper handles all of it in seconds — load, press down, done. Many models include interchangeable blades for different cuts: dicing, slicing, and sometimes spiralizing. The container catches everything as it falls, so cleanup is contained. It's one of those gadgets that feels unnecessary until you use it, and then it's hard to imagine prepping without it.

A Quality Chef's Blade and Cutting Boards

No gadget list is complete without the two most foundational tools. A sharp chef's blade makes every single cutting task faster and safer — a dull blade requires more force and is far more likely to slip. Keeping it sharpened matters as much as buying a quality one. Pair it with at least two cutting boards: one dedicated to raw proteins, others for vegetables and everything else. Keeping them separate is basic food safety that makes a real difference.

Collapsible Salad Spinner

Simple and genuinely useful, a salad spinner washes and dries fresh greens and herbs in about 30 seconds. The collapsible version folds flat and stores easily. If salads or fresh herbs are a regular part of your cooking, this one earns its counter space back every week. Air-drying greens takes much longer and leaves them wetter than ideal for dressings to stick.
Having the right kitchen tools can transform meal prep from a chore into a simple, enjoyable task. By investing in essential gadgets and utensils, you can save time, reduce stress, and make cooking more efficient—helping you create delicious meals with ease every day.
